Jose strengthened from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane on 15 September 2017, and is moving toward the northwest near 15kph. According to NOAA, swells generated by Jose are affecting Bermuda, the Bahamas, the northern coasts of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico, and the southeast coast of the USA, and will spread northward along the Mid-Atlantic coast of the US during the next few days. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, but swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, NOAA added.
