Smoke rose from a building northeast of Paris where two brothers suspected in the Charlie Hebdo attack were cornered.

Police launched an assault as smoke rose from a building where the brothers were killed and a hostage freed, a police official said.

Cherif and Said Kouachi are the suspects in the massacre Tuesday at the Charlie Hebdo satirical newspaper.

Amedy Coulibaly and Hayet Boumddiene were two suspects named by police as accomplices in the Paris attack.

The Kouachi brothers had been cornered by police inside a printing house northeast of Paris.

"They said they want to die as martyrs," a local lawmaker said of Cherif and Said Kouachi.

Meanwhile, police mobilized near the scene of a hostage situation at a kosher market in Paris on Friday.

Police SWAT squads descended on the area of the attack in Paris where at least five hostages were being held.

The suspect in the Paris market attack was also a suspect in the killing Thursday of a Paris policewoman.

Police took positions near the market in Paris.
